Is it ok to use this function to replace it????

function mb_check_encoding($str, $encoding="ASCII"){
  return (mb_detect_encoding($str) == $encoding );
}

I assume it is. But I'm not 100% sure. I didn't really look into this stuff as it worked fine on my system and my main goal was to inform users, that they might get problems. If I remember right there also was some kind of problem with mb_detect_encoding not detecting the right encoding. But I'm not sure. You can just write a post and add some umlauts or non-ASCII chars and see if it works. If not tell me and I'll look into it.

Subject: Same problem.. at least I think...
Please excuse my ignorance,

but since updating to WP 2.3 and updating the PN plugin I get the following message in my PN info screen in a pink box

"This version of PHP does not support the function mb_check_encoding. You might get some trouble with non-ASCII chars in the subject. Most hosters support this, as it is a sensible php-extension. More information."

By clicking on the more information it brings me to a site that I am afraid is really Chinese to me...

Notifications don't seem to send anymore (the nifty new test function also does not work and gives me the following message "Email has to be in the database." and as neither of these messages look good... I take it must have something to do with one of these...)

And to be honest.. I think the solution to this one is going either over my head... or I am just not seeing something.. but as of this moment.. I am simply lost..

Cheers for the great plugin though..
