Ok. Looks like everything is working more or less. I think it should be safe to have a peek at the development trunk.
But beware!!! This should not(!!!) be used on a production system. At least you must not rely on mails being sent out. It shouldn't take down your blog, though. Also the backend isn't translated to German and the frontend isn't translated to English.
None the less you should be able to get a preview. :-)

Have fun:

Ok, the English translation has been added, too. While doing so I messed up my repro a little bit. I hope everything is back to normal now.

Oh by the way:

You can see whats done on the Trunk in the svn changelog: http://plugins.trac.wordpress.org/log/post-notification/tr…
Or as RSS-Feed: http://plugins.trac.wordpress.org/log/post-notif…?limit=…

Also please feel free to tell me what you want to have implemented / fixed next. PN became a fun project and I not really using it in a productive environment any more.

FEATURE REQUEST...
Just wondering if are thinking of adding some kind of bounce processing?

I actually use phpList to send out email newsletters. I hacked Post Notification so it would write the Post into the phpList database so phpList does all the work for sending emails and checking for bounces.

Post Notification has all the main features I would need (especially with burst mode now), except for bounce processing (which auto unsubcribes a user if they get 5 consecutive bounces in a row). I would rather use PN in the long run because then I could remove phpList from my site and it would be one less program to maintain and update.

Anyways, I am sure it's quite a complex process to implement, but I am still throwing it out there as a feature request.

Thanks

Yes that is a lot of work. It's probably more easy to maintain a WP2phpList-Plugin. :-) But if anyone is interested in coding it..... :-)

Ok, some work done at the frontend. Subscription to comments should now work quite nice.
@jeff: I had a closer look at phpList. I was thinking about using php as backend. IT has lost of nice features, which I otherwise have to code myself. :-)

BTW: You can downlaod the latest PN "nighly" here http://downloads.wordpress.org/plugin/post-notification.zip

phpList is specifically designed for sending lots and lots of emails, and it's open source, so you can either borrow code for your plugin or just link into it from WP, whatever will work best.

From a WP admin standpoint or webmaster standpoint, many may not want to install and maintain (and figure out) another program, so they may shy away from your plugin if it becomes completely dependant on phpList. So the questions might be (1) Do you have your base plugin that works without phpList, and add advanced features that are only available if you have phpList installed? or (2) Do you incorporate code from phpList directly into your plugin so that it does not require phpList at all?

There is a link two posts above. I'm also hopping that nothing will keep me from releasing the beta today.
