This originally was posted a while ago, and I forgot to get back to this thread...

I am using 1.2.34 with 2.8.4 now without problems.

Subject: Does PN 1.2.32 work with WP 2.8.3 ?
Any idea if PN 1.2.32 will work with WP 2.8.3?

I made some modifications to 1.2.32 and I don't have time to update it to a new version and then make the mods to it as well right now.

Is anybody using this older version with WP 2.8?

Thanks

phpList is specifically designed for sending lots and lots of emails, and it's open source, so you can either borrow code for your plugin or just link into it from WP, whatever will work best.

From a WP admin standpoint or webmaster standpoint, many may not want to install and maintain (and figure out) another program, so they may shy away from your plugin if it becomes completely dependant on phpList. So the questions might be (1) Do you have your base plugin that works without phpList, and add advanced features that are only available if you have phpList installed? or (2) Do you incorporate code from phpList directly into your plugin so that it does not require phpList at all?

Just a suggestion for anybody with Spam problems that wants to avoid using capcha...

Try the Bad Behavior plugin:
http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/bad-behavior/

It prevents spam bots from even accessing your pages in the first place, and is highly effective.

Thanks

FEATURE REQUEST...
Just wondering if are thinking of adding some kind of bounce processing?

I actually use phpList to send out email newsletters. I hacked Post Notification so it would write the Post into the phpList database so phpList does all the work for sending emails and checking for bounces.

Post Notification has all the main features I would need (especially with burst mode now), except for bounce processing (which auto unsubcribes a user if they get 5 consecutive bounces in a row). I would rather use PN in the long run because then I could remove phpList from my site and it would be one less program to maintain and update.

Anyways, I am sure it's quite a complex process to implement, but I am still throwing it out there as a feature request.

Thanks

In my DB, the notification_sent field has either a -1 or a -2 in it for previous sent posts... so does 0 mean not sent yet, and a -1 or -2 means it has been sent? You said to check if it is >= 0 ... what would values greater than 0 represent?

Also, as far as forcing PN to email now, would the following work?

<?php
 update_option('post_notification_nextsend', 0);
 post_notification_send_check();
?>

Or should I incorporate the use of the post_notification_set_next_send() function instead of updating the option directly.

Thanks

A couple more questions...

(1) Is there an easy way to check and see if PN is done sending all the emails?

(2) What would happen if the post were deleted half way thru the sending of the emails? For example, if  have 1000 people signed up, and after 500 emails have been sent the post is deleted, would the last 500 not get an email since the post is now gone?

Subject: How to force Post Notification to send emails in queue
I have a program that inserts Posts into the wp_posts table from outside of WordPress and also inserts the post_id and notification_sent='0' into the wp_post_notification_posts table. Since this is not done from a browser, there is no guarantee as to when the post will actually get sent.

Is there a function I can call to force PN to send the email now?

Thanks

Are there any Hooks in Post Notification that I can use?

I am using a plugin called WPListCal, which let's you setup events and then display them on a page or in your sidebar. The events are stored in a separate table, so Post Notification does not know anything about them, and cannot send an email whenever a new event is added. I would like to make some mods, but if there are any hooks, that would probably make it easier.

Thanks

On the Admin-> Settings screen, down where it says Replacement In Posts, the text reads:
The Stings @@post_notification_header and @@post_notification_body will be replaced in your post.
Also see the Instructions for this.

It should say 'Strings', not 'Stings'!

Subject: Post Notification 1.2.8 appears to work fine on WP2.5.rc2
I upgraded my sandbox to WordPress 2.5.rc2 (release candidate 2) and Post Notification 1.2.8 appears to be functioning fine without any glitches. I know there's a newer version (1.2.14), I just haven't got around to upgrading it yet!

Just wanted to let you know!!
